Technical application is only one part of a tattoo. Behind every finished piece lies the artist's ability to observe, to draw, to understand form and to organise a composition correctly.
The Fine Art Development Program is an independent artistic programme for those who want to develop deeper knowledge in drawing, painting and the principles of fine art.
It is addressed both to IMT students and to practising tattoo artists or external participants who want to advance their artistic perception and gain greater autonomy in the creation of their own designs.

The drawing included in the Beginner Tattoo Program aims to familiarise the student with line, hand control and the basic principles of design.
The Fine Art Development Program goes considerably deeper. It treats drawing as an autonomous artistic education and examines form, light, anatomy, composition and colour through the principles of fine art.

Training in observation and in the accurate rendering of objects, forms and proportions. Developing the coordination between eye and hand.
Control of the line, quality of mark-making, steadiness, intensity and expressiveness. Using line not only for outline but also to convey form and movement.

Understanding the basic geometric volumes and the way they build more complex forms. Proportion, construction and the rendering of three-dimensional volume on a flat surface.
A study of how light behaves on form. Creating volume and atmosphere through highlights, mid-tones, shadows and controlled tonal transitions.
The basic principles of perspective, depth and the organisation of space. Placing objects and figures within a consistent visual environment.
A study of the basic proportions, volumes and movement of the human body. Understanding the structure behind the form rather than simply copying its outward appearance.

Organising the elements within a work. Balance, direction, focal points, contrast, negative space and building a composition that guides the eye.
Understanding colour relationships, temperature, saturation and values. Building a palette, colour harmony and controlled contrast.
Observing and rendering different surfaces and materials. Developing the artist's ability to recognise and represent the particular visual information of each texture.
The correct use of photographic and artistic references. Researching, selecting, combining and transforming references into a new, personal composition.

Experimenting with different approaches and gradually developing a personal artistic identity. The aim is not only technical accuracy, but the creation of work with character and personal direction.
Transferring the principles of fine art into design for tattoo. Adapting composition, values, contrast and visual flow so that an artistic idea can work on the human body.
The programme concludes with the creation of a personal work. The participant develops their initial idea, gathers references, produces preliminary studies and presents the final composition together with the artistic choices that shaped it.

The Fine Art Development Program can be attended independently and does not require participation in any of IMT's core Tattoo Programs.
For students of the Beginner, Advanced or Complete Professional Program it functions as additional artistic training that strengthens their personal development and broadens their creative possibilities.
